Our Opinions....

EA- I personally love this movie, i think that Russel Crowe did a grea job as the part of Robin and the all around acting of this movie was great. What a great story and the way they portrayed that story was also awesome. There was a few bad things in this film but the good outweighed the bad by a lot. This movie was sorta dark colorwise it would alot easier to watch if they would of added more color, but I think they were trying to do that and there the pros so i cant really contradict what there doing but my perspective was sort of dark
JC- I didn't see the entire film, but in my opinion this film was very well done. The detail put in to every scene especially the battle scenes were terrific. They portrayed a classic story very vividly and did an excellent job choosing the actors, most specifically, Russel Crowe. The war scenes included very gruesome and high tech graphics to present an edge of your seat thriller. The color scheme was kind of blah as Evan said but I think they made up for it with every other aspect of the film.

We came to the conclusion that this movie was a great portrayel of historic events with a little twist on it and a little love story. We really enjoyed this movie for a students choice movie we made a good pick. We thought that Russel Crowe did a great job in this film and so did everyone else. this action packed film wasnt a edge of the seat kinda film but was still interesting. It was sorta dark yet it was still an easy movie to watch. Everytime you watch this film you are gonna catch something new that changes your perspective and i love that. All in all it was a great film and i would recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a action packed film with good historical backround.

Taken

Our Rank 4/5

Our Opinions...

EA- First of all Liam Neeson did a great job of acting in this film, but i just dont find this film that great i just could not relate to it. There is no way a guy can go into Europe find his daughter that had been taken and get her back in like 48 hours. I dont believe it for a second. I just found this film sorta unrealistic and just a little ridiculous. It was ok the first time i watched it in the theatres but i wouldn't watch it again. Liam Neeson did a good job at acting in this film but his daughter Kim ( Maggie Grace) did an awful job at acting.

JC- This film was great right from the get-go. My attention was immediately drawn into an action packed, suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. Although it did seem like Bryan Mills had superhuman powers, it did describe how he had over 30 years of training and he said himself that he had a  "particular set of skills that make me a nightmare for guys like you". "I will find you, and I will kill you." After he said that I was immediately attached to whatever happened next. Bryan was just so smart and witty that everything he did was interesting and intelligent. I loved this film and would love to watch it again.

Pros and Cons
JC- The pure adrenaline packed action in this film did enough to keep me entertained. Not only was it the action but it was also the adventure Bryan had to go on in order to save his daughter. His grit and determination somehow got him out of even the most dangerous situations and allowed for him to save his daughter in a short time. The only con I can think of is the fact that Bryan seemed almost as if he was a "superhero" and there was no way he could be put down. However, that is what the movie making industry is all about, expanding our imaginations and entertaining their audiences, which is what Taken did exactly.

EA- I would have to say that the acting in this film was wondrous, Liam Neeson that is. He did a great job expressing his yearning to retrieve his daughter from those filthy men. Although I did enjoy his acting, the movie seemed almost too good to be true. The idea that somebody could get to their daughter in those circumstances, in that amount of time, is just unreal. I probably won't want to watch this film again.

Slumdog Millionaire

Our rating 4.5/5

Our opinions...

JC- I have to admit, the first time I watched this film I was anticipating a boring, uninteresting plot that would have to make up random happenings just to fill in the holes. I mean its based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, what could possibly be contained in this film that would capture the minds of people around the World? Well, the answer to that is the contents of Slumdog Millionaire really gave you the sense of a true underdog story, that anything can happen through even a little bit of luck. The story follows Jamaal (Dev Patel) and Salim Malik (Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail) throughout their troubled parentless lives, after of course their mother is killed in a riot. It describes the young brothers' bond and relationship as they grow closer and closer together. Jamaal uses these life events to try and maneuver his way to Who Wants to be a Millionaire and eventually to the 10 million rupees question. Along these lifelong adventures, the brothers come across another orphan by the name of Latika. The three were split up when they were younger and it seemed as if Jamaal and Latika were destined to find eachother again which miraculously occurs at the end of the film.

The acting...
JC- In my opinion the acting was wondrous and gave you a really great sense of their emotions and hardships. They helped you understand vividly what the slums of India can really be like. You could see fear and even happiness in the actors' eyes as they eeked their way through very rough times. Dev Patel portrayed Jamaal perfectly displaying his determination and perserverance to succeed in life. Not to mention that this was an independent film, the so-called "no name" actors did an excellent job and would do as good or better than a famous actor would've.
EA- I like jordan thought the acting in this film was amazing. The non-stop hardships that jamal had to face were extrodinary and the actor portrayed them with amazing poise and i thought he did an awesome job. All of the actors did great jobs at the parts they did and not that i know of any Indian actors/actresses but i wouldnt of changed a thing about the acting portion of this film. I thought they did an outstanding job.

Differences between independant vs major film corporations....
Differnces in this film to normal american made big money corporations, well there was a major lack of special effects in this movie you could tell that this film was for the most part in India. Most independent will not have the financial oppurtunitys to film in tons of different sites, or use lots of like CGI or other type of computer graphics in there films. This film did not have any big name actors/actresses and from stories i have heard did not pay there children actors and actresses very well. Those actor/actresses were found in the slums and went back after the movie was made. All in all though even though this film was not made by big money corporations, i loved this movie just as much as any movie made by said big money companys. Slumdog millionaire was a great movie and would recommend it to anyone.

V For Vendetta

Our Rank 4.5/5

Our opinions....
EA- wow is all i can say about this film. Not an all star cast but sure is an all star story.
This Film has an intense story everything is based on November the 5th and the Gun Powder Plot
by Guye Fawkes. basically it is a film just bashing large government saying how out of hand and
out of control it can get in if you get a corrupt leader and a corrupt police. I thought this was my favorite film
so far in this class, and one of my all time favorites as well.
JC- This mesmorizing, eye opening, interquite piece of art captured my interest from the get-go. Like Evan said, the cast isn't well known, but they sure made a name of themselves in this film. Hugo Weaving did an unbelievable job portraying the life of ticking time bomb just waiting to explode, on the government. The way he was treated in his early life allowed him to become a mastermind of trying to overthrow the government. The plotline lead us on a rollercoaster of a ride throughout the film and kept you on the edge of your seat.

The acting...
JC- Overall, I don't think the acting could have been any better. Hugo Weaving was superb and everything he said was deep and meaningful and you really never knew what to expect from him. Also the action scenes were unreal. The detail and slowmotion really combined to make you feel as if you were right there at the scene. The utter brutality V had for his enemies was clearly shown and you got a feel for his rage and anger.
EA- I thought the acting in this film was amazing Hugo Weaving portrayed V perfectly and Natalie Portman was amazing as well. The action scenes were intense and as jordan stated you can really tell how pissed V really was at the strong central government. His character was believeable from beginning to end and he kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

This film we believe that the director was really trying to get across how bad a strong government can turn out to be and that sometimes people have to take it into there own hands to take back there freedom. We believe this film was an overall great film in its message and its story. It wasnt just all political though it also had an underlying love story and that also grabbed your interest as well. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to watch a movie that will grab your attention and keep it until the finale. Great Film!
